The small villages and quiet lands of the Sabina have always been the home of legendary tales. None, however, is as terrifying and sinister as the tale of the Baron Bonaccorsi...

The year is 1096 , and within the walls of Castle Bonaccorsi a wind of change can be sensed in the air.

the Baron Bonaccorsi, lord of the Castle, is gathering a small but proud army of landsmen ready to embark on their first crusade.

The love for the nobleman is such for his people that he even decides to grant generous amounts of land and chivalrous titles to whoever chooses to follow him on this epic quest.

And so they...towards the holy land. The entire village cheers and salutes their heroes as they pass by, the dames sigh, the children laugh, watching the brave knights hoping one day they too will get to wear a shining armour and hear songs of their gestures.

But the enthusiasm and joy that filled the hearts of these adventurers is soon to vanish: more than half of them perish on the journey, the gorish battle scenes haunt the minds of the decimated troops and day by day the Baron struggles to keep the faith of his men.

Exhausted and disturbed, he roams the battle grounds at night, sitting quietly next to the rotting corpses and drawing strange symbols in the muddy ground.

Driven by desperation, one night the soldiers await the return of their Lord. Showing no mercy, they strike with three fatal blows and decapitate the corpse as ultimate punishment.

But as the first drop of blood touches the ground, the traitors are  paralised by a horrifying neigh released by the Baron's horse.

With eyes filled with hate, he charges the troops before galloping away into the darkness.

In the midst of the confusion, the Baron's body disappears without a trace....

Legend has it that the soldiers were stricken by a strange plague on their return to the homeland.

They rapidly died one by one, their families led to ruin and lands wasting away with them.

To this day, villagers still hear the sound of hoofs trotting around the castle walls at night. strange symbols appear in the gardens, music and sometimes even children's laughter break the silence.

Everyone is certain: the Baron is here.
